Research project exploring motherhood, identity, care and artistic practice.
Intro
Creative (m)otherhood is the name of my artistic research and compositional project. It is based on a personal reality that I am interested in exploring as a composer and researcher: creativity during motherhood.
Being a (not so) brand new mother has raised the need for me to reflect on the challenges of trying to reconcile mothering with my own creative professional practice. In my experience, motherhood and creation often seem to go in separate directions.
In most cases, mothering remains an unevenly distributed task, and the struggle to mother and work is combined with the overwhelming responsibility of becoming a mother.
Therefore, I have taken this period of my life as an opportunity to develop an artistic research and composition project in which I can experience first-hand and report on both the challenges and opportunities that motherhood and creativity might bring.
