Which side are you on?

Which side are you on?
Instrumentation
electric guitar, amplified plant pot set, electronics
Duration
12'40"

This piece is written for percussion (using a set of 16 plant pots), electric guitar, and triggered voices. It is based on a series of songs that I came across in a Dutch book from the 1970's which consists of a compilation of protest songs. The musical material was composed from different songs taken from this book. The melodic material has been fragmented, shortened, and expanded. The plant pot set's material mostly comes from the idea of a call for action, awakening, and involvement. The name of the piece comes from the song with the same name written by Florence Reece around 1930. I find the name of the song (Which side are you on?) very relevant for this day and age, where the world needs a society that unites and fights for change and equality.
